本課程屬本所博士班「計算語言學領域」。亦為本所與中研院語所合作開辦之「計算語言學與中文語言處理」學程。由中研院語言所與資訊所教授合作開課。

Pro-Seminar II: Computational Linguistics is organized by the Pro-Seminar Committee, chaired by Prof. Keh-Jiann Chen from the Institute of Information Science at Academia Sinica. The course lectures will be given by faculty members of the Computational Linguistics and Chinese Language Processing Program of the Taiwan International Graduate Program. This course is designed to familiarize students with important basic scientific issues regarding Chinese Language Processing. Advanced lectures on the following topics will be offered:
1) Information Retrieval and Machine Learning: cross-language information retrieval, web-mining, models for machine learning
2) Natural Language Processing: ontology, Chinese parsing, lexical knowledge representation, machine translation, statistical NLP,
3) Speech Processing: automatic speech recognition, speech synthesis and
4) E-learning: computer-aided foreign language teaching.

Students will be assessed by attendance, class participation and assignments. There will be no term papers or exams.
